Plan, schedule, perform and/or assign the work of building maintenance including the supervision of building maintenance staff. This position will oversee and manage the CVM Facilities crew. They will spend around 30% of their time with management and administration and balance doing physical work with the crew.

Salary Grade:  UC - Range of $60,000 - $66,000

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Estimate, plan, and coordinate building maintenance, construction, renovation, and related projects.
2. Supervise, schedule, and assign work of the building maintenance crews(s) and outside contractors, and monitor their work in order to assure proper staffing and quality standards are met.
3. Inspect jobs, equipment and tools in order to assure compliance guidelines, university standards, and safety rules are followed.
4. Interview and recommend for employment, train, evaluate, and discipline the building maintenance crew and student support staff.
5. In accordance with MSU purchasing policies, verify and approve requisitions; order, control, and account for supplies and equipment in order to maintain an adequate inventory; document and approve job time and materials used.
6. Inspect plans, prints, sketches, and specifications for projects and related jobs and provide technical assistance.
7. Evaluate and test new products, equipment, and processes.
8. Respond to questions, complaints, and needs of all levels of university employees, students, parents, and the public in order to provide technical information and assistance.
9. In accordance with MSU purchasing policies, audit and oversee vendor bills and charges; ensure that all charges are accurate.
10. Initiate and prepare written and computer generated special, periodic, fiscal, time study, and labor reports and maintain records.
11. Interact with department heads, other University management, and other skilled crafts supervisors in order to review, discuss, and maintain records.
12. The position has the responsibility for the health and/or safety of others. Responsibilities include overseeing the safe use of equipment and materials and maintaining safety standards for the staff when working in hazardous or dangerous conditions.
13. Maintain accountability for CVM Facilities equipment and property inventory items.
14. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma with 8 years experience in the area of Commercial, Industrial or Residential Construction using conventional and innovative techniques.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education as approved by Human Resources Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous supervisory experience. Post-secondary training or education in a relevant field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade.
2. Knowledge of applicable building codes, rules, and regulations.
3. Ability to exercise tact and discretion with customers and the public.
4. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. 
5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbally and in writing with the ability to foster a cooperative work environment

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Frequent - externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; irregular and extended hours may be anticipated, including nights and weekends; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position.
Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
Hearing requirements: heavy phone contact requires ability to hear and respond to telephone conversations.
