Position Function:
This position would provide veterinary, including emergency care, to large animal patients admitted to the Animal Health Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. 100% clinical service appointment within the Animal Health Center. These positions will rotate between the Farm Animal Medicine and Surgery Service, the Theriogenology Service, and the Large Animal Ambulatory Service.
2. They will rotate emergency duty with other large animal residents and interns.
3. This position will work with the large animal faculty to provide care for patients presenting for ongoing medical problems, preventive care, and emergency treatments.
4. They are responsible for ensuring the treatments prescribed by the faculty are carried out accurately and in compliance with standard practices.
5. This position also monitors and responds to status changes of hospitalized patients under their care.
6. They will maintain records of the veterinary care provided and capture associated fees in compliance with standard practices.
7. While on emergency duty they are responsible for answering call from veterinarians and clients seeking care at the Animal Health Center or by our Large Animal Ambulatory Service. They routinely meet clients at the Animal Health Center and in the field after hours, including weekends, to provide emergency care to large animals.
8. In the course of their duties in the hospital they are responsible for educating veterinary students on case management decisions, therapies, and techniques.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be eligible for employment in the U.S. at the time they apply for a position at MSU-CVM. Mississippi State University employs only citizens of the US, Canada, and Mexico, nationals of the US, and aliens authorized to work in the US by the time of commencement of the position.
Applicants must be a graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary school (see http://www.avma.org/education/cvea/colleges_accredited/allcolleges.asp) and have passed the NAVLE licensure examination, or a graduate that has completed the entire ECFVG qualification process (see http://www.avma.org/education/ecfvg/default.asp). Applicants must have completed and passed the NAVLE examination or the entire ECFVG process by the time of commencement of the position.
Interns are required to be USDA NVAP category 2 accredited.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff, and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
