Position Function:
The Instructional Support Specialist will work under the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Mississippi State University (MSU). The Center provides resources, consulting services, and programs to MSU faculty to further elevate the quality of teaching and learning. This role supports MSU’s mission by offering faculty the tools and support to enhance instructional practices. For more information, see our website at: https://www.ctl.msstate.edu.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Instructional Support Specialist will coordinate and conduct programs and services aimed at enhancing teaching and learning at MSU. Specific activities include organizing programs, developing and supporting workshops and trainings, and providing one-on-one consultations with faculty regarding teaching and learning. Support is provided for all formats of instruction, including face-to-face, blended, and fully online.
1. Establish and maintain effective communication with MSU faculty, Library Staff, ITS Staff, and other campus support organizations.
2. Consult with faculty on emerging instructional technologies.
3. Assist instructors in incorporating educational principles and practices into their teaching.
4. Provide assistance to faculty with instructional issues.
5. Conduct classroom observations of faculty and produce written reports.
6. Monitor instructor requests and provide appropriate solutions.
7. Assist with the creation of written, graphic, and video content for Center programs.
8. Assist with coordinating, publicizing, and conducting Center programs.
9. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Center’s mission.
Supervisory Responsibility:
None
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree from an accredited institution and 3 years of teaching experience in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in instructional support or related area.
Experience with developing and delivering professional development programs or workshops.
Any additional years of related experience beyond the minimum.
Proven track record of successful management of projects.
Demonstrated evidence of effective instructional practices or impact on teaching quality.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of fundamental principles of teaching and learning.
2. Knowledge of instructional technologies.
3. Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, with personal initiative.
4. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
5. Ability to work effectively and efficiently in the university’s Learning Management System (currently Canvas).
6. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
7. Ability to plan and meet deadlines.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
• No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor environment.
• Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
• Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
