This position is through the Mississippi State University Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture. The successful candidate will be advised by Dr. Steve Miranda (Mississippi State University). The position will work closely with long-term regional collaborators from governmental agencies. The main focus of the position will include conducting research on big-picture management of fish assemblages and their potential interactions with invasive carps in the Tennessee and Cumberland river basins. Research activities include literature reviews, assembly of data sets, data analysis, development of management strategies, and develop research proposals.

Salary Grade:  UC

Anticipated Appointment Date:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct and direct original and innovative research on fish assemblages. Participate and engage in cross-disciplinary collaborations across agencies and universities involved in fish ecology research and invasive carp management. Participation in dissemination of knowledge in scientific conferences, literature, and stakeholder meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in quantitative ecology, biology, statistics, or other related fields. Demonstrated experience in the quantitative aspects of fish ecology and biological invasions. Demonstrated written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong background on fish species ecology. Extensive record of publication and multidisciplinary collaborations. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Good written and verbal communication. Advanced level of knowledge of programming language – R.
