Mississippi State University has an Assistant Teaching Professor position available. This position will be seven-eighth time in the Department of Biological Sciences and one-eighth time in the Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures. This is a promotable position dependent on experience and effectiveness. All Assistant Teaching Professors are full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track positions.

Salary Grade:  UC

For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The expected workload in the Department of Biological Sciences will consist of teaching seven course equivalents within our curriculum that may include our non-majors course in Anatomy & Physiology as well as courses for our introductory Biology sequence for majors, and more advanced majors courses including Animal Diversity, Human Anatomy, Vertebrate Histology, and Comparative Anatomy, or other courses fitting the applicant's interest and the department's need. Duties may include courses that have online components or are offered entirely online although the expectations are that this position will be predominantly in face-to-face delivery formats. These assignments may also include preparing, coordinating, and supervising lab sections with the support of graduate teaching assistants. The opportunity to teach summer courses for additional pay may be available to meet student demand. The one-eighth time in the Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures will consist of contributions to research, teaching and service including but not limited to the development of new research and teaching initiatives in the area of forensic sciences, supporting course development in anthropology, or other department needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, instructional experience at the university or community college level, excellent communication and organizational skills, and familiarity with common instructional technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

Multiple years of instructional experience at the university level. Preference will be given to candidates who use evidence-based teaching practices, have instructional design experience, are committed to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment, have taught a variety of courses, have experience coordinating teaching laboratories, and demonstrate excellence in teaching.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; strong organizational and computer skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

No unusual physical requirements. Requires no heavy lifting, and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
