The School of Human Sciences at Mississippi State University is seeking an outstanding candidate for an Instructor in Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM). This role focuses on teaching courses in two concentrations: (1) Design and Product Development and (2) Merchandising as well as participating in program, school, college, and university services. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to collaboration and innovation in a cross-disciplinary environment. The successful candidate will also teach undergraduate courses (four classes for Fall and Spring) and advise undergraduate students.

Salary Grade:  UC

Department Profile:

The School of Human Sciences offers education, research, and outreach programs in the areas of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS), Agricultural Education, Leadership and Communication (AELC), and Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM). The FDM program offers a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising. Students can focus on Product Development and Design or Merchandising.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach innovative undergraduate courses in fashion design, product development, merchandising, and/or applied textile and apparel technologies. The courses will be assigned based on relevant experience, prior coursework, and program needs.
• Mentor and advise undergraduate students, fostering a culture of academic excellence.
• Actively engage in collaborative initiatives within the program, across the university, and with external partners.
• Contribute to creating a collegial and inclusive academic environment by participating in program, school, college, and university services.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree in fashion design, product development, and merchandising or a closely related field at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to teach courses in both concentrations: (1) Design and Product Development and (2) Merchandising.
• Ability to teach computer-aided design software.
• Teaching experience in a college or university setting.
• Industry experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Demonstrated expertise in current applied textile and apparel technologies.
• Proven ability to collaborate and work collegially with peers and external partners.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring.
