This part-time (50%) position provides one on one counseling and advice to veterans, service-disabled veteran entrepreneurs, Reservists, National Guard members, transitioning service members, and military spouses interested in starting or expanding a small business. Required to drive and travel to conduct and present the activities of the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC), including providing Boots to Business training. Work includes preparing reports and forms and securing session locations.

Salary Grade:  13

Department Profile:

The mission of the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) is to provide one-on-one counseling and advice to veterans, service-disabled veteran entrepreneurs, reservists, national guard members and transitioning service members interested in starting or expanding a small business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Markets the business and educational services program in assigned service area.
2) Plans, coordinates, conducts training and counseling sessions (face-to-face, phone, and online).
3) Provides assistance to clients as it relates to areas of concerns, identifies needs, and available resources.
4) Consults with a variety of agencies, VBOC offices, and SBA Resource Partners to assist clients with obtaining objectives.
5) Develops and prepare client files.
6) Maintain records and files.
7) Performs similar or related duties as assigned by the VBOC's Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Business or related field
AND
1 year related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Master's Degree in Business or related field
2) Any additional years of related experience beyond the minimum
3) Veteran or Military Spouse
4) Direct experience owning and operating a business

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1) Department of Defense Acquisition Experience related to small business opportunities
2) Familiarity with the Small Business Administration resource partners, and the Department of Defense Transition Assistance Program (TAP)
3) Knowledge of the military environment and experience with the military community
4) Knowledge of entrepreneurial and venture capital concepts
5) Experience with small business and small business programs
6) Excellent verbal and written communication skills
7) Computer skills such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation
8) Excellent interpersonal skills
9) Valid Driver's License

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1) No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility
2) Frequent external imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict=resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis
3) Job frequently requires walking, writing, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands
4) Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically
