Position Function:
The Research Engineer I, II, III or Senior in the Center for Cyber Innovation (CCI) will perform leading edge research in various areas of cybersecurity by devising new approaches and solutions to cybersecurity problems through the application of theory, principles, and concepts. This position will collaborate with federal, state, local, and industry partners to develop processes and technologies that advance areas within cybersecurity under the general direction of the CCI Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs engineering research support and data analysis.
The position will have a strong emphasis on computational science and engineering research as related to one of several areas: cybersecurity operations, ICS/SCADA, cybersecurity education, software and systems (meta)modeling and engineering, machine learning and reinforcement learning, big data, game theory, software defined networks, high performance and cloud computing.
Plays a role in the development and implementation of new and/or expanded technical capabilities that will impact future research projects.
Develops and enhances relationships with federal, state, local and private partners to the fullest extent possible, forming collaboration and coordinating relationships resulting in research and development activities.
Contributes to the development of personal and sponsored research results in scholarly publications.
Pursues scholarly and professional interests which will keep their expertise at the leading edge of engineering practice through continuing professional duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
Level of appointment (Research I, II, III or Senor) is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Research Engineer I - B.S. in engineering or computer science; less than one year in a related area.
Research Engineer II - B.S. in engineering or computer science; two years of professional experience in a related area; requires two years at previous level or equivalent.
Research Engineer III - B.S. in engineering or computer science; four years of professional experience in a related area; requires two years at previous level or equivalent.
Senior Research Engineer - B.S. in engineering or computer science; six or more years of professional experience in a related area; requires two years at previous level or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in computer science with a focus in cyber security.
Earned masters’ degree in cyber security & operations or closely related field.
Excellent communication skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knows and effectively uses the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures within cybersecurity.
2. Able to apply cybersecurity practices for implementation in other domain areas.
3. Continues development of technical expertise and knowledge through experience and application.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
Routine deadlines, usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressure from persons other than immediate supervisor.
Job frequently requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically, ability to distinguish colors.
