The College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University is searching for a Dermatology Resident.

Salary Grade:  12

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Dermatology Resident at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine consists of advanced clinical training in all aspects of canine and feline dermatology. There will be opportunities for the residents to consult on dermatology cases in equine, farm animals and occasionally wildlife and exotic species. The resident will work closely with the faculty, dermatologist and the students on the Dermatology rotation in order to provide the highest quality of patient care.
All Dermatology residents will attend weekly case rounds, including resident case rounds on a weekly basis. Histopathology rounds will occur on site at MSU CVM at least once a month. Rounds through Zoom for book club, journal club, and histopathology will occur on a regular schedule with other Animal Dermatology Group Residents across the nation. The Dermatology resident will be expected to contribute to didactic presentations within the college community, under faculty guidance, via student lectures, rounds presentations, and continuing education presentations. A minimum of one presentation (oral) at the North American Veterinary Dermatology Form or the World Congress Veterinary Dermatology Conference is a requirement of the residency program. A residency project with subsequent acceptance of at least one manuscript in a peer-reviewed journal (e.g., Veterinary Dermatology, JAVMA, etc) is also a requirement of the program. Pursuit of a master's degree is optional with a program designed to enhance the candidate's board preparation and strengthen their overall academic and professional development. Opportunities for clinical and preclinical (bench) research abound at MSU-CVM. Continuation in the program on a year-to-year basis will be contingent upon an
acceptable level of performance by the Dermatology resident. After successful completion of the program, the Dermatology resident will be awarded a "Certificate of Residency". The Dermatology resident will be expected to attain board-certification in the specialty of Dermatology (ACVD) at the end of the residency program.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree
and have completed one-year internship or equivalent
postgraduate clinical experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.

Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
