Position Function:
Supervises the medical records department and staff in a major medical unit. Plans and develops medical record filing systems. Coordinates the implementation of operating policies and procedures, and participates in operational planning. May handle data storage and retrieval, abstracting, and statistical input.
Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.
Salary Grade: 11

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supervises non-supervisors including hiring, firing, conducting performance appraisals, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
2. Recommends, implements and maintains policies and procedures for continuing quality improvement of the departmental operations, record maintenance, control, security, and computer system.
3. Trains and supervises staff and/or students, as rotations change every six weeks, in coding procedures to ensure information is entered accurately in the computer system.
4. Maintains, recommends, and implements procedures to ensure the safekeeping of medical records and the return of all material to outside agencies when necessary.
5. Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the unit; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
6. Maintains record indexes and storage and retrieval systems.
7. May order and/or maintain office equipment and supplies.
8. Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Three years of years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
3. One year of supervisory experience
4. Experience using computerized medical records system.

Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.

13. Medical data editing and abstracting skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
2. No or very limited physical effort required.
3. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
