The College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University is seeking to hire a Senior Research Associate to support molecular biology and animal health research at the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences. The Senior research associate position will be in Starkville, Mississippi.
Salary Grade: 15

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Research Associate will support multiple research projects, with a primary focus on bacterial pathogenesis and infectious diseases, specifically exploring oxidative stress mechanisms, bacterial membrane biology, and virulence factors of human pathogens. Additionally, this position will support ongoing research efforts investigating the mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in pathogens relevant to the food industry and livestock to mitigate the spread of resistant bacteria in food production systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
A PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, biology, infectious diseases, host-pathogen interaction veterinary science, or related discipline is required for this position. The successful candidate must have a minimum of three years of training and experience in performing high-quality research.
Beginning with a doctoral degree:
a. A professional employee with a doctoral degree with 2 years of relevant experience and
demonstrated competence can begin work at the Research Associate III level.
b. To begin at the Senior Research Associate level, one must have a doctoral
degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Has established scientific expertise; knows and effectively uses the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures that field of specialization.
Ability to organize, interpret data, and derive study conclusions.
Able to write reports at the college level.
Computer literate and experienced with word processing, database, and statistical applications.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
Generally, routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor. This research involves live animals that require 24/7 care and must be observed 3 times a day. Depending on the sampling schedule, working at night and/or weekends may be required.
Job frequently requires standing, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
