Position Function:
The diagnostic imaging internship at Mississippi State University is a one year, clinically based program, which provides a post-DVM individual with educational experience in both small and large animal diagnostic imaging. The program is designed to qualify individuals for entry into an ACVR-approved residency program leading to board certification in veterinary diagnostic imaging.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's primary responsibility will be the acquisition of radiographic and computed tomographic images on both large and small animals under the supervision of the radiologists, diagnostic imaging residents, and diagnostic imaging technologists. Throughout the program, the responsibilities of the intern will progress from image acquisition and quality assurance to limited report writing. Opportunities for introduction to ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging will be available. Emergency radiology duty is shared with the full-time radiology technicians. The intern will attend rounds and resident classes, including journal review and known case conference, as time permits. Regular teaching activities will also include demonstration of imaging techniques and basic interpretation skills to third-year veterinary students and advanced study fourth-year students. The intern will be expected to present at least one formal imaging-related 30 minute college-wide seminar each year to the faculty, staff and veterinary students. Upon successful completion of the program, the Internship Certification will be awarded.
Minimum Qualifications:
Prerequisites other than being a graduate of a college of veterinary medicine: Candidates must have graduated from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school and have completed at least one-year rotating internship or equivalent practice experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
