Position Function:
The Neurology/Neurosurgery (NNS) Internship at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine consists of advanced clinical training in medical and surgical aspects of canine and feline neurology. There will be opportunities for the intern to consult on neurologic cases in small animals, large animals and occasionally wildlife and exotic species. The internship will consists of 75% commitment to the NNS and 25% to the small animal emergency/critical care service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will work closely with three faculty neurologists, and three neurology/neurosurgery residents, three NNS technician, and the students on the NNS rotation in order to provide the highest quality of patient care. The NNS intern will attend weekly rounds, including resident rounds, case rounds, and journal club (in conjunction with 3 other university NNS groups), NNS topic rounds, neuropathy rounds, and neuroradiology rounds. The intern will assist with after-hours emergency neurosurgery cases, shared among the NNS residents with faculty back-up.
The NNS intern will be expected to contribute a minimum of one presentation (oral or poster) at a major veterinary conference (e.g. ACVIM Forum, ACVS Forum, SEVEN, VNS). There is the opportunity to interact with faculty in a project or case study with the goal of subsequent acceptance of at least one manuscript in a peer-reviewed journal.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be eligible for employment in the U.S. at the time they apply for a position at MSU-CVM. Mississippi State University employs only citizens of the US, Canada and Mexico, nationals of the US, and aliens authorized to work in the US by the time of the commencement of the internship.
Internship applicants must be a graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary school and have passed the NAVLE licensure examination or a graduate that has completed the entire ECFVG qualification process.
Applicants must have successfully completed a small animal rotating internship by the commencement of the specialty internship to qualify for this position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
