The internship in equine medicine and surgery at Mississippi State University is a 12 month clinical program which will include participation in equine surgery, theriogenology, field service, and emergency care. The internship will focus on providing clinical, hospital based service while learning through interaction by way of consultation with clinical specialists in diagnostic imaging, anesthesiology. pathology, and ophthalmology. Opportunity to rotate through one or more of these disciplines or field services can be arranged with consent from participants.

Salary Grade:  UC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The intern will rotate with the senior faculty in providing after hours emergency care, but will always have a senior faculty member providing direct support if needed. Other duties will include assisting in new student orientation, supervision, and instruction. Participation in intern rounds and seminars are required. Providing assistance in veterinary laboratory sessions will be required occasionally. Creative activities such as research and manuscript preparation is encouraged.

Minimum Qualifications:

Prerequisites other than being a graduate of a College of Veterinary Medicine: Graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
