The Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine has one Small Animal Community Veterinary Services (Primary Care service) faculty position available at the Clinical Instructor, Assistant, Associate or Full Clinical Professor level (Clinical Track).

Salary Grade:

Small Animal Community Veterinary Services

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

New faculty members will join two other full-time and three part-time faculty members, all experienced general practitioners, in the Community Veterinary Service clinical service and student rotation. Teaching responsibilities will involve didactic and clinical training for veterinary professional students, house officers, graduate students, and veterinary medical technology students enrolled in the academic program. Candidates should be proficient in general veterinary care of medical and surgical patients as well as providing service to clients. The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with the teams within the Animal Health Center and College of Veterinary Medicine. The successful candidate is expected to provide leadership to continually improve the quality of the Community Veterinary Service clinical service and rotation. Mentoring students, house officers, and junior faculty will be an expectation. Participation in clinical or educational research and continuing education programs is also expected.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential qualifications include a DVM or equivalent degree. Ability to obtain licensure in Mississippi.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience or interest in rural veterinary practice is preferred, as is an understanding of the Spectrum of Care options available for small animal practitioners. Candidates with experience in large, multi-doctor veterinary hospitals are preferred. Teaching experience is also preferred. Interest and expertise in exotic animal medicine would be a positive attribute.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
