Position Function:
This position will assist in providing technical and organizational leadership for the Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) department. EIS areas of activity include software system design, development, implementation, and support for major information systems at Mississippi State University (MSU). These activities encompass a broad spectrum of information technology and include all aspects of application and database programming, web and mobile application development and support, system integration, database administration, identity management and information security. The Associate Director assists the Director of Enterprise Information Systems in providing both strategic and operational direction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Director of Enterprise Information Systems, the Chief Information Officer (CIO), and other units within ITS, and campus units to provide effective university software solutions.
Assist in overseeing of all EIS areas including Student Systems, Financial Systems, Application Administration, and Web Services.
Maintain highest level of knowledge of information technology best practices.
Investigate and make recommendations for new technologies to support the learning, research, and service mission of the University.
Foster the communication and interaction with individuals at all levels of the university to facilitate technology initiatives.
Work closely with other ITS units including the Service Desk to manage customer relations, optimize customer satisfaction, and maintain superior customer service standards and practices.
Monitor the direction and growth of enterprise applications to ensure the availability and stability of appropriate technologies and support resources.
Maintain a secure and auditable information systems environment.
Recommend and implement policies and procedures related to the use of information technology resources.
Establish and maintain vendor relationships.
Collaborate with IT professionals from other universities and with vendor partners to develop software standards, to identify information technology directions, and to enhance application software solutions for higher education.
Represent the university on industry panels, consortiums, and advisory boards to promote information technology best practices for higher education.
Assist in organizing operational priorities for Enterprise Information Systems.
Provide resource management and quality assurance for projects and operations led by the unit.
Manage new information systems software implementation and development initiatives.
Supervise all aspects of personnel action including filling of vacant positions, performance reviews, and staff assignments.
Assist, guide, and train subordinate personnel in their assigned functions.
Promote career and professional development of staff.
Prepare reports and conduct presentations as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 8 years of progressively more responsible experience in information technology, 4 years of which involve managing complex projects and supervising technical staff in a university environment; At least 3 years of experience supporting the Ellucian BANNER ERP system in a large (at least 10,000 student) university environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Information systems work experience at a land grant university and an appreciation of the multiple missions and roles of such an institution; Experience with Linux, Kuali, SVN/GIT, API Integration, DRUPAL, CAS.
Advanced degree.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated competence in all phases of software system development and support.
Proven ability to assume responsibility for supporting multiple systems.
Proven ability to effectively lead a highly technical software development staff.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant information systems hardware and software technologies including database, web, operating system, security, and networking.
Working knowledge of legislative and regulatory issues affecting information technology as they relate to higher education.
Demonstrated personal initiative and professionalism including excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral/written communication skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
• No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
• Frequent external imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
• Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
