Position Function:
Responsible for providing staff support to the University’s Environmental Health and Safety programs, with a primary focus on Fire Safety. This position plays a key role in reducing fire and life safety risks across campus by coordinating inspections, ensuring compliance with fire protection standards, supporting emergency preparedness, and maintaining critical fire safety infrastructure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist with the planning and execution of fire drills across campus facilities, including Residence Halls.
2. Conduct routine inspections, test runs, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems at university facilities.
3. Coordinate the annual inspection of pressure vessels. Responsibilities include maintaining an up-to-date inventory of all pressure vessels and ensuring each vessel is properly marked and tagged as certified.
4. Coordinate the inspections and cleanings of all fire suppression hoods. Including maintaining and up-to-date inventory of all fire suppression hoods and ensuring each hood is properly inspected and cleaned.
5. Coordinate the inspections and repairs of fire extinguishers. Including maintaining and up-to-date inventory of all fire extinguishers.
6. Assist with initial facility safety reviews and conduct follow-up reviews as needed.
7. Assist with managing the university’s Hot Work Program, including performing site inspections to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
8. Support inspections related to fire and life safety systems in both renovation and new construction projects.
9. Provide training and outreach on relevant program areas to members of the university community, including faculty, staff, and students.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: Two years of fire safety, building construction, or maintenance.
Substitution allowed for Experience:
Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Fire Safety, Construction Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
NICET certification in water-based fire suppression systems
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent computer skills, including, but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
Excellent written or oral communication skills.
Ability to travel in-state.

· Must work with hazardous materials and be in areas where biological materials, chemicals, and/or radiation are present.
· Frequent external imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
· Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
