The Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean and is responsible for providing leadership, management, and accountability for the academic and student affairs areas of the College. The main areas of responsibility include oversight of the CAAD academic affairs needs such as student requests, concerns, and petitions, as well as faculty and student needs such as mentoring, recruitment, student guidance, and support with the policies and procedures related to student and academic needs. The Associate Dean serves as the liaison between the university administration and the college, and will be responsible for providing essential support for necessary university reporting on academic outcomes, including institutional effectiveness, academic program performance reporting, student success, and other related areas. The Associate Dean also works in conjunction with the directors and department heads in the College in providing support for our faculty and students within the academic mission of the college. This will be a 50/50 job share with the applicant's home unit in the College of Architecture, Art, and Design. 

Salary Grade:  UC

For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Department Profile:

The Associate Dean is responsible for providing leadership, management, and accountability for various components of the College of Architecture, Art and Design. The main areas of responsibility include oversight of the CAAD academic productivity, student and faculty support, and general academic administration as well as serving as the academic liaison between the university administration and the college.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-- Provides assistance to the Dean as her consultant, replacement in her absence, and collaborator in a variety of projects, such as fundraising and faculty recruitment.
-- Provides coordination in the development and authoring of reports, proposals, and other documents including the college's strategic plan, faculty/staff handbooks, and various operating guidelines and procedures.
--Provides support and guidance to students and academic units in dealings with academic issues.
--Establishes a coherent network that clearly identifies both a faculty member's interest/expertise and the college's range of interest/expertise.
--Establishes a coherent mentoring and administrative structure that assists young faculty with developing a national recognition for their interests.
-- Terminal Degree in Architecture, Art, Interior Design, Building Construction or closely related field.
-- University teaching and administrative experience in research or academic affairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

-- The successful candidate must hold the rank of Professor with tenure and must be a current employee in the College of Architecture, Art & Design at Mississippi State University.
-- Established university service and teaching record.
-- Possesses strong interpersonal skills in order to work closely with students, parents, and staff in recruiting and outreach.

Preferred Qualifications:

Administrative experience and/or leadership experience at the college or university committee level

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

-- Knowledge of academic administration and higher education operations, particularly in architecture, art, and design.
-- Strong leadership and strategic management skills to oversee academic programs, faculty, and student services.
-- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration across the university.
-- Ability to use data to guide academic planning and decision-making.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

-- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
-- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
-- No or very limited physical effort required.
