The STEM Education Coordinator is under the administrative supervision of the Director of the Bagley College of Engineering K-12 Outreach and Student Programs Office. Duties include teacher training, event planning and implementation for the MS Science & Engineering Fair (MSEF), judge and volunteer recruitment and coordination for the MSEF, registration and processing for the MSEF and the Engineering the Future Campaign (ETFC). In cooperation with departments from across the university this position promotes scientific literacy and practice across the state. Travel throughout the region served as well as limited extended travel will be required. This is a part-time, 12 month position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Plan and implement teacher professional development in scientific research practices.
2. Promote the practice of safe and sound research practices among K-12 participants.
3. Plan and implement the annual Science and Engineering Fairs at MSU.
4. Plan and implement the Engineering the Future Campaign annually.
5. Manage and maintain accurate records of all efforts (budgets, registration, teacher support…)
6. Assist MSU faculty, staff, students and others (judges & volunteers) in participating and serving.
7. Integrate efforts within the mission of the Bagley College of Engineering (BCoE), BCoE Outreach Office, and MSU.
8. Serve as a team member of the K-12 Outreach Office, maintaining an active role in all events held within the office.
9. Serve on the Board of Directors for the MS Science & Engineering Fairs.
10. Assist in cultivating and maintaining sponsorship and grants opportunities.
11. Travel throughout the region, state and to the annual International Science & Engineering Fair.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree. 2 years’ experience related to duties specified.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Education or a STEM related field. 2 years’ of classroom teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

-Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

-Travel in-and out-of-state required.
-Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.
