Position Function:
The College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University, invites applications for a non-tenure (clinical) track assistant/associate/full professor position in veterinary diagnostic microbiology. The position is in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine and the Diagnostic Laboratory Services (DLS), which is part of the Mississippi Veterinary Research and Diagnostic Laboratory System.
Salary Grade: UC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A major responsibility of this position is supervision of the diagnostic microbiology laboratory. This laboratory receives in-house, necropsy, and referral samples. This position is responsible for oversight of personnel and procedures in the laboratory. Personnel training and maintenance of the quality system SOP’s are important functions of this position.
The veterinary diagnostic microbiologist is also expected to participate in teaching in the veterinary curriculum, in both the preclinical and clinical phases. Participation in collaborative research is expected. The ideal candidate will have a passion for microbiology and teaching.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a DVM or equivalent with an advanced degree in bacteriology, microbiology, or related discipline. Demonstrated collegiality and teamwork is required, along with excellent individual and group communication skills. Demonstrated interest in teaching DVM students is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include Board eligibility/certification by ACVM or equivalent. Preference will also be given to applicants with experience in diagnostic aerobic and anaerobic bacteriology, mycology, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, application of MALDI-TOF-MS technology, and molecular diagnostics.
The DLS is a part of the AAVLD fully accredited Mississippi Veterinary Research & Diagnostic Laboratory System.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
