Position Function:
The Scott group in the Department of Chemistry at Mississippi State University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in organic synthesis, focusing on the synthesis of polymers. The successful candidate will design, synthesize, and characterize novel polymeric materials for commercial applications. The candidate is also expected to participate in the regional I-Corps program commencing at the start of the appointment.
Salary Grade: UC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Design and execute multi-step organic syntheses of monomers and functional small molecules. Develop and optimize polymerization methods.
• Participate in the regional I-Corps program.
• Characterize materials using NMR, GPC, DSC, TGA, FTIR, and other analytical techniques.
• Assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
• Prepare manuscripts and present research findings at national and international conferences.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field (Ph.D. must be completed prior to the start date).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and polymerization techniques.
• Experience in the characterization of polymers and small molecules.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Regularly involves lifting and bending. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.
