Position Function:
The Manager of Billing & Coding Services is responsible for oversight of the revenue cycle for MSU’s healthcare components (HCCs). This includes credentialing, payer enrollment, claim submission, payment processing, and accounts receivable management. The Manager provides leadership and compliance oversight for the Student Health Center’s billing operations while directly performing billing and revenue cycle functions for the University’s mental health HCCs. This role ensures accuracy, integrity, and adherence to regulatory requirements in all aspects of patient billing and medical data management. The position reports to the Director of Fiscal Operations for Student Health Services and is based at the main campus in Starkville.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Billing oversight and management – Provides oversight of insurance and patient billing for the Longest Student Health Center (LSHC), including billing procedures, coding accuracy, data entry, medical record audits, maintenance of patient billing records, claim submission, denial management, accounts receivable follow-up, and compilation of periodic reports. Monitors recertifications, authorizations, and related timeliness to ensure compliance and payment continuity.
2. Direct billing functions for mental health HCCs – Directly performs billing and revenue cycle functions for the University’s HCCs, including all activities listed above (claims submission, denial review, A/R management, reporting, and compliance monitoring).
3. Payer and provider enrollment – Performs payer/network clinic and provider enrollment for the mental health HCCs. Coordinates or performs payer/network clinic and provider enrollment for the LSHC.
4. Administrative and revenue cycle support – Tracks budgets related to billing operations, coordinates revenue cycle functions across HCCs, manages purchases of billing-related supplies/equipment, and serves as the primary external point of contact for revenue cycle matters.
5. May perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education - Bachelor’s degree in Health Services Administration, Accounting, or related field
Experience (yrs.) - three years of experience in coding and billing in a medical setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Certification as a Professional Medical Biller and/or Coder
-Full Cycle Clinic Start-up
-Five years of experience with healthcare revenue cycle, at least two of which in a supervisory role
-Multi-clinic experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of coding and billing entry in a medical clinic, HIPAA, FERPA, coding and billing policies and procedures for different providers.
2. Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines; medical terminology; and state and federal Medicare reimbursement guidelines.
3. Ability to research and analyze data, draw conclusions, and resolve issues; read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
4. Knowledge of the revenue cycle management process.

1. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
