Manages and coordinates the business operations of a department/unit. Performs duties required to maintain and administer departmental budgets; administers staff policies and/or procedures; compiles reports; performs administrative procedures.

Department Profile:

The Department of Kinesiology is housed within the College of Education and features numerous exceptional areas of study for graduate and undergraduate students. The department has over 20 faculty serving approximately 1,100 students. The department is just moved into a brand new 67,000 sq ft state of the art kinesiology facility, housing over 16,000 sq ft of research space in addition to four classrooms and offices.

Undergraduate students can choose one of six concentrations: Sport Administration, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Neuromechanics, Physical Activity and Coaching, Physical Education and Coaching, and Strength and Conditioning. Master's students can choose from one of four concentrations: Sport Administration, Sport Pedagogy, Disability Studies, and Exercise Physiology. Doctoral students have two concentrations to choose from: Sport Studies and Exercise Science.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manages the daily financial activities of the department of kinesiology, which include budget preparation and control, accounting, purchasing, and business planning and management; ensures compliance with university policies and procedures, state, and federal regulations.
2. Reconciles and balances financial records with the Controller’s office on a regular basis, audit financial records for accuracy, availability of funds, and conformance to university and departmental policy and procedures.
3. Coordinates and processes all financial and personnel actions.
4. Communicates with faculty and staff concerning business matters. Stay abreast of university financial and personnel policies and procedures.
5. Coordinates, designs, and implements internal financial reporting systems, financial controls, and management information systems in coordination with the automated financial reporting systems of the university.
6. Develops and implements systems and processes to establish and maintain records for the operating unit.
7. Prepares, in conjunction with the budget office, budget requests, operating budgets, legislative budget requests, and formal budget revisions as required.
8. Coordinates the preparation of reports of disbursements, special analyses, and information reports for management; presents recommendations for changes and/or improvements, monetary control, and adherence to budgets.
9. Evaluates and/or negotiates contracts for the purchase of services in coordination with the university purchasing department.
10. Manages cash, cash-related receipts, accounts receivable, and credit and collection functions, ensuring timely processing of billings, payments, and collection of program revenue.
11. Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of the unit.
12. Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
13. Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and task forces; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Management.

Experience: No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or other appropriate discipline.

Experience: BANNER, Budget Module, PageUp People

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
• Knowledge of customer service principles, techniques, systems, and standards.
• Skill in budget management.
• Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures.
• Knowledge and understanding of business management principles and practices.
• Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
• Skill using BANNER system.
• Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• No or very limited physical effort required.
• Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
