Position Function:
Mississippi State University's Coastal Research and Extension Center in support of the Crosby Arboretum is looking for part-time environmental educators to help run field trip programs for local elementary schools. Our programs run from March to the end of May and again from the beginning of September to the end of October with potential hours in the summer as well.
Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.
Salary Grade: UC

Department Profile:
The Coastal Research and Extension Center serves as the coastal arm of Mississippi State University's Research and Extension Programs. The Crosby Arboretum in Picayune, MS is seeking a seasonal Intermittent Environmental Educator.

Anticipated Appointment Date:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Deliver curriculum-based programing to students preK-5 in the Picayune, MS area.
· Engage students, teachers, and the public about environmental issues and topics.
· Lead groups of students in various activities and challenges.
· Responsible for assisting with set up and take down of all stations for the program.
· Assisting in the maintenance of equipment and recordkeeping of various equipment and supply usages.
· Assists with the facilitation of safe, engaging, and enriching programing.
· Reports on any incidents or accidents to the Education Coordinator.
· Participate in staff meetings and training, as well as workshops and conferences as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School diploma or GED.
• Experience working with children from preschool to middle school
• Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, science, sustainability, or other related fields.
· Current or former teachers’ certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Effective and confident verbal communication skills.
· Positive attitude and willingness to follow instructions and take constructive criticism.
· Ability to take initiative and ask questions when needed.
· Must have ability to work with groups of various ages, gender, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds.
· Effective time management skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
· Required to walk and stand for 3 or more hours at a time.
· Ability to handle and work in adverse weather conditions.
· CPR and First Aid certification preferred. Will provide training as needed.
