Position Function:
The Campus Landscape Technician is responsible for the sanitation of the grounds by maintaining refuse movement to the appropriate disposal location, which includes dumpsters and landfills throughout the assigned work shift.
Salary Grade: LST-1

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Collect debris and refuse from the different assigned locations across campus.
2. Performs manual labor of a semi-skilled level, which may include the use of standard or specialized hand tools and power-operated equipment.
3. Relocation of material from one place to another.
4. May pick up trash in surrounding areas of campus.
5. Replace trash cans around campus.
6. May pick up leaves and yard refuse.
7. Transport trash to dumps, landfill, or recycling center.
8. Lift cans by hand to empty into truck or perform mechanism to lift cans.
9. Drive garbage or recycling truck vehicle to perform refuse pickup.
10. Inspect refuel vehicles before and after use.
11. May operate automated or semi-automated hoisting devices.
12. Tell dispatchers about delays or accidents.
13. Inspect dump trucks before and after route.
14. Requires skilled driving due to pick up locations being in tight confined areas, as well as in the presence of other vehicles and pedestrians.
15. Operates power equipment and tools essential to completing daily tasks. (A degree of skill and technique is required.)
16. Follows standard safety precautions in the operation of equipment.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School education or equivalent
1 year of experience in sanitation work
Valid Driver's License
Substitution allowed for Education:
When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional appropriate experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of (1) year relevant experience per year of required education.
Preferred Qualifications:
3-5 years of work experience in sanitation or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of safe working practices
2. Ability to use basic hand tools and light equipment.
3. Ability to read and follow instructions.
4. Ability to perform heavy lifting and perform physical labor.
5. Ability to wear protective work equipment.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. Regularly involves lifting, bending, or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.
2. Routine deadlines; variance in work volume is seasonal and predictable.
3. Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
4. Job occasionally requires sitting, climbing, or balancing, and lifting >100 pounds.
