The Coordinator for Thrive Scholars Program is responsible for serving as a resource for students by providing individualized support and coaching for students experiencing challenges, including, but not limited to, previously in foster care, emancipated minor, at risk for homelessness, who have experienced the death of a parent(s), or at risk for housing instability or food insecurity. Reporting to the Associate Director of the Holmes Center for Student Success, this individual is responsible for evaluating and coordinating gaps in support and assisting students in accessing resources that will contribute to their success.

Salary Grade:  13

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Serves as the point person for the THRIVE Scholars Program, ensuring that students in this program receive academic and personal support, including financial resources for degree completion.
2. Provide services for students experiencing life stressors and encountering barriers that impede success by coordinating prevention, intervention, and support efforts.
3. Responsible for working closely with campus partners, including the Dean of Students Office, Housing and Residence Life, Counseling Center, Center for Academic Excellence, and other units necessary for student support.
4. Develop appropriate relationships with key community entities and stakeholders to aid in student success and support.
5. Develop specific strategies for identifying student challenges and providing intrusive interventions to deal with those challenges.
6. Provide ongoing follow-up with students to ensure continuity of support and evaluate success.
7. Assist students daily in solving problems and making referrals when necessary to meet their needs.
8. Work closely with the Executive Director to facilitate student emergency funding operations.
9. Maintain an updated directory of community resources available to students.
10. Prepare annual reports

Received: Receives supervision from the Associate Director of the Holmes Center for Student Success

Given: Full supervisory responsibility to student workers/Thrive Scholars Ambassadors/Graduate Assistant(s)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree - Social Work, Counseling

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree - Social Work, Counseling, Higher Education/ discipline related to the position

2-3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Proficient with technology
2. Experience working with students in crisis
3. Ability to analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data
4. Knowledge of care/case management
5. Ability to lead high-impact initiatives from conception to implementation
6. Independent, self-starter with a strong work ethic
7. Excellent verbal and written skills
8. Excellent presentation skills

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
2. Frequent- External imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficulty to anticipate the nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to the position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
3. Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and handling objects with hands.
4. Ability to occasionally work weekends and long hours.
